Super Mario 64

I was singularly unimpressed the first time I played this. I just assumed a 64-bit machine could produce brighter, more vibrant graphics than a 16-bit one, right? Nah. The Nintendo 64 sacrificed cartoony “fun” to clear up processing power for those muddy, muted 3D graphics.

But y’know what? Close to 30 years later, I have a new appreciation for this game. It broke a lot of ground and while a lot of newer games have copied the format, none of them have ever captured the unique fun of exploring deeper into Peach’s mansion. Nostalgia aside, this game has actually benefitted from retrospect.

Should probably grab it, just saying.
