2021 saw both the release of many acclaimed games as well as announcements for some amazing titles for 2022. With 2021 coming to a close, I wanted to take a look at some Switch Exclusive titles that were announced for 2022 that have me very excited.

Chocobo GP

When I saw this title I was a little confused. Then I realized that GP stood for Grand Prix and that Chocobo GP is a sequel to Chocobo Racing. It’s weird that a game from 1999 is receiving a sequel in 2022, but weirder things have happened. Funny enough there was supposed to be a follow-up to the 1999 game in 2010, but it was canceled.

Speaking of the early 2000s, the kart racer genre was the go-to genre at that time. A lot of similar titles came and went with a lot of them being mostly forgotten Chocobo Racing was a game that got mixed reviews after its initial release. I remember it was a pretty standard kart racer that didn’t really do anything different from the rest of the titles that were out there.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but I’m really interested in grabbing a copy of Chocobo GP. The gameplay doesn’t look like it has evolved over the past 22 years, but it looks like a polished racer. It also has familiar areas to drive around that fans of Final Fantasy will recognize.

Chocobo GP doesn’t have an official release date that I’m aware of… except that it’s coming out in 2022. If you’re a fan of kart racers, Final Fantasy, or the Chocobo series then this will be right up your alley.

Bear and Breakfast

Ok, so Bear and Breakfast isn’t exactly exclusive to the Switch since it’s also being released for PC… but I’m going to count it anyway. Mostly because the only console this will be released on is the Nintendo Switch.

Bear and Breakfast looks like a typical management-style adventure game. You get to craft, build, design, and run your own bed and breakfast in the woods. Oh, and did I mention you’re a bear? Haven’t you always wanted to be a bear and make your own bed and breakfast?

I’ve been very much into games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon lately, so Bear and Breakfast looks right up my alley. I love games where you have to manage your time/resources between building and adventuring.

There seems to be an interesting story involving the woodland animals as well. This is definitely a game to keep an eye out for. If not for the bed and breakfast then at least to help this bear’s dream come true. There is no official release date for Bear and Breakfast, but it is scheduled to be released in 2022.

Triangle Strategy

Triangle Strategy is another beautiful looking RPG from Tomoya Asano and Square Enix. It’s a Tactical RPG that features the same HD-2D graphics that Octopath Traveler had. I wasn’t the biggest fan of all of Octopath Travelers stories, but I did love the gameplay and graphics.

I tried out Triangle Strategy’s playable demo and was impressed with what I saw. The game is dialogue heavy and honestly reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1… which is a good thing in my book. Given what I’ve seen/read so far on the game, it looks like it’s going to have a very in-depth and interesting story.

In addition to that, the gameplay from the demo was pretty fun and intuitive. I can see myself investing a lot of time into this game. I am a huge fan of Tactical RPGs so Triangle Strategy is definitely on my radar. Triangle Strategy is set to release on March 4, 2022.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch have been amazing so far. Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks like it’s not only going to continue that trend but greatly improve on it.

Pokémon is getting a makeover. It’s not going to be another turn-based JRPG but is now taking on more of an action-adventure style RPG. The trailers that have been released are jaw dropping.

Apparently it takes place in a “new” region Hisui. Now, when I say “new” I mean it takes place in the ancient version of Sinnoh. It even features new Pokémon and new regional variants of well-known Pokémon.

I’m excited to see where this new gameplay takes the series but, more importantly, I’m excited to explore this new region with this new play style. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to release on January 28, 2022

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

There’s a new Kirby game and it’s in a 3D environment… sign me up! This has the recipe to either be a disaster or absolutely amazing. I’ll hold off on that opinion until I play it though.

The trailers though… the trailers are something special. They show an environment that is bright and colorful and a world that is open and large. Just like with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, I’m very excited to explore this new world and see what it has to offer.

Kirby still has his signature ability to copy powers from his enemies as well. The trailer also shows that Kirby’s powers got an upgrade as he’s able to use them to do things he hasn’t before, like rolling around as a spike ball.

I think Kirby and the Forgotten Land is going to be great and I can’t wait to play it. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is scheduled to come out in the Spring of 2022.

Well, those are my top picks for exclusive Nintendo Switch games that I’m really excited for in the upcoming year. I will say there is a 6th game that I’m excited for and that’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, or whatever it’s going to be officially called.

Unfortunately, there’s no official release date the Breath of the Wild sequel. I’ve seen and read that a 2022 release year is a possibility but not a guarantee, so I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.

These games have me excited, but what are you excited for? Let me know down in the comments.
